Rebuilding the Eye–Brain Connection After Concussion
A concussion can change your life in unexpected ways. Something as routine as reading text or driving may suddenly become a challenge. These changes can feel overwhelming, but there’s hope. Vision therapy for concussion rehabilitation at Eye Health Centre is about helping you regain control and move forward in your recovery.
Vision difficulties following a concussion often include symptoms such as:
- Double vision
- Nausea or dizziness
- Light-sensitivity
- Reading problems
- Headaches or migraines
- Poor depth perception
- Balance & coordination problems
Vision therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Just as medicine must be taken in precise doses for the best results, vision therapy programs are precisely customized for each person. With consistency and commitment, vision therapy could be your pathway to lasting recovery.
Book AppointmentWhat Is Neuroplasticity & How Does It Support Vision Rehabilitation?
At its core, concussion rehabilitation focuses on leveraging the brain’s ability to adapt and rewire itself. This process, called neuroplasticity, is what makes vision therapy possible.
An estimated 90% of people with a concussion experience visual symptoms. Neuroplasticity enables us to strengthen and rebuild these connections through specialized, repeated exercises. The goal is to retrain your brain so it can again collaborate with your visual system as effectively as it did before the injury.
Our personalized vision therapy exercises are like a physical therapy regimen for your eyes and brain, strengthening their ability to work together and resolving your symptoms.
What to Expect from Vision Therapy for Concussion Rehabilitation
Our process begins with a detailed, personalized evaluation by Dr. Jobin. From there, we develop a unique treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
No 2 people have the same experience recovering from a concussion, and that’s why every detail—from the exercises to the sequencing—is customized to your needs.
Length of Program
Rehabilitation is not a quick fix, but a gradual process. Most of our programs last between 20 and 40 weeks, depending on individual progress and needs.
Daily Exercises
To see results, consistency is key. We encourage our patients to set aside just 10–15 minutes daily to complete exercises designed to reinforce therapy sessions. This dedication is critical in creating meaningful changes through neuroplasticity.
Though your eye doctor has created your rehabilitation plan, you’re the one who has to put in the work day after day to see results.
Collaborative Work
Our approach involves a mix of in-office sessions and guided activities you’ll do at home. By actively engaging with these exercises, you’ll take the lead in your recovery process.
A Life-Changing Impact
Many of our patients tell us they wish they had started vision therapy sooner once they experience how much their visual and cognitive capabilities improve.
While the process requires effort and patience, the results can bring meaningful relief and restored comfort in daily activities.
Start Your Journey to Concussion Recovery
There’s no reason to struggle with lingering post-concussion symptoms when help is available. Whether you’ve experienced a sports-related injury, a car accident, or another significant life event, vision therapy can guide you toward a brighter, more functional future.
